Each custom guitar I make comes with a pictorial record of it's construction similar to the one shown here. Also included are parts lists and manufacturers so that if there is ever a part needed some time in the future the original parts origin won't be a mystery. This one is the "Greenest" one yet. All the wood except the fret board is scrap, recycled or re-purposed. There is ZERO rainforest impact as you'll notice it has a hard maple fretboard (which is not scrap or recycled to my knowledge). You'll also notice the bindings and position markers are scrap black walnut from my cabinet shop that came from a tree right here in Exeter RI. The top is American Chestnut that used to be a beam in a house we demolished in Hope valley RI. It's somewhere between 150 and 200 years old!
Electric and Hybrid Guitars:
The finger style audio clip you hear (my take on Jerry Reed's "Jiffy Jam") was recorded on one of my Hybrid electric acoustics. Electric to one track acoustic to another, then mixed to be what you hear. All 4 of the tracks (2 acoustic 1 rhythm and 1 melody and 2 electric 1 rhythm and 1 melody) are done this way. The actual tracks for rhthym and melody respectively were recorded simultaneously thus making the original tracks identical except one is acoustic and one is electric. Acoustic is delayed slightly in the mix on the melody track to add presence. Electric pickups are Carvin c22 series. Acoustic pickup is LR Baggs Element. (More sound clips further down the page)
SH-1 AE6 Semi Hollow Electric / Acoustic hybrid guitar. Butternut neck and body with burled cherry top. Magnetic system controls: Individual 250k tone pots with .022 on bridge tone and .068 on neck pickup. Master electric volume 250k pot with push pull phase switch. Three way electric pickup selector switch. Acoustic style adjustable bridge custom made to match Cherry burl top, with Graphtech saddle and Fishman Matrix Infinity pickup and on-board preamp. Acoustic chamber beneath bridge to aid in acoustic tone. Acoustic system control: volume, and acoustic/acoustic and electric/ electric only selector switch. This body also has more hollow area in the body to accommodate the Gretsch style master volume and add some acoustic internal volume, and decrease weight a bit over previous models. Finish is Emtech 7000HBL water based lacquer over natural amber tint shellac sanding sealer.

Provenance:
SH3 GE 6 Semi Hollow Electric guitar. Butternut neck and body with carved figured butternut top, and carved butternut back. Set 2 piece neck with carbon fiber reinforcement, and 2 way adjustable truss rod w/ open style adjustment. 22-3/4 fret neck with 24-1/4" scale length and zero fret. Designed for Chet Atkins style playing, neck is wider at the nut and shorter scale allows easier fingering of unusual chord forms. Controls are a combination of Gretsch & Gibson layouts, volume and tone for each pickup and a master volume. Also has a Black Ice overdrive wired to it's own control and can add as much or as little of the subtle edge if desired. Roller style tune a matic bridge, with Bigsby tail piece. TV Jones Vintage pickups, 500 K tone and volume pots. rear plate electronics access. Smooth heel transition. Sperzal pearl button trim lock tuning machines.
SH-1CT AE 6 T
This is a variation of the typical SH-1 It has a mildly carved top Strat Magnetics 5 position wiring with Fender Tex Mex matched pickup set and typical Fender style set up except that the magnetics volume control is on the forward lower horn like a Gretsch. It has a red pine body, figured maple top (sunburst emerald green to black though it doesn't photograph well). Through neck design. tremelo is an LR Baggs X bridge, with LR Baggs CTRL-X preamp w/ vol. control and 3 way selector for acoustic / acoustic and electric / electric only with separate output jacks for each. LR Baggs has made the CTRL-X so that the magnetic (electric guitar) system is not affected by the battery. This way if you lose battery power the electric half will work normally.
This guitar above is now owned by recording songwriter Peter Van Siclen. He has used it on numerous sessions. Below are links to 2 of his songs the first one "Tunnel Vision" has prominent guitar work using both halves of the guitar between about 4 and 5 minutes of the recording and is dispersed throughout as accompaniment. The second "Suburban Vulture" uses Electric and acoustic both as accompaniment with the acoustic track delayed several milliseconds to fatten the sound.
Here is another audio clip. The initial acoustic intro is played, then when the over driven single note electric takes over it is the same SH 1 guitar with the switch flipped from acoustic to electric through a Carvin Nomad Tube amp. Both parts played in real time on one guitar as you hear it. The clip is a variation of Molly Hatchet's "Fall Of The Peacemakers" LR Baggs Element acoustic pickup, Carvin C-22 electric pickups.
